Horse-drawn carriages today are something we can do nicely without.  Yet, for the lush sensuousness of original Victorian homes in Fort Greene, many find cut glass doors, effusive corbels and ceiling medallions, expressive woodwork and wall coverings – all to be cherished like old songs. They inhabit our heads as something we wouldn’t evict
even if we could. Enjoy some of these amiable homes on the 28th Fort Greene Association House Tour, and amidst all else, we think you won’t desist in singing their praise.

This architectural exhibit, created specifically for the 2006 Fort Greene House Tour by curator/ architect Annie Coggan, poses the question: How do contemporary architects work within an historic and contextual framework as they create new works in Fort Greene? The exhibit will be a fascinating and provocative look at this challenge, and how some of world’s most renowned practitioners, including Enrique Norten, Hugh Hardy, and Arquitectonica are addressing it. The buildings featured will include The Library of Visual and Performing Arts, Theatre for a New Audience, the Wellness Center at Long Island University plus exclusive looks at several recently completed residential projects.
